CARNEGIE HALL

Oceana

by Osvaldo Golijov

Members of the Chorus joined American Symphony Orchestra, The Collegiate Chorale and soloist Biella Da Costa, under the direction of Maestro James Bagwell, at Carnegie Hall for a performance of Osvaldo Golijov’s Oceana. Written in the spirit of Bach’s cantatas, the work includes choral passages and sections for a jazz vocalist, accompanied by the rhythms and instruments of Latin American popular music.

Mr. Bagwell and his players did well by the piece, with stylish contributions from the solo vocalist, Biella Da Costa, and fine work by the Manhattan Girls Chorus.
