Events & Experiences

The Chorus, founded in 2011, made their Carnegie Hall debut in October 2012 in the New York premiere of Noam Sheriff’s Mechaye Hametim with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Thomas Hampson and The Collegiate Chorale under the baton of Maestro Zubin Mehta. In 2017, the Chorus joined the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and Maestro Mehta at Carnegie Hall for Mahler Symphony No. 3. They also joined the American Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Leon Botstein for Leonard Bernstein’s Symphony No. 3, Kaddish. In addition, the Chorus was honored to perform at the United Nations Ambassadors’ Ball for the Secretary Generals’ farewell event with Steven Tyler. The Chorus also performed at Carnegie Hall for the Rainforest Fund with Sting, Idina Menzel and Vittorio Grigòlo. Most recently, the Chorus performed with Demi Lovato at Prudential Center, presented the World Premiere of Tuvayhun: Beatitudes for a Wounded World by Kim André Arnesen with lyrics by Charles Anthony Silvestri at The Angel Orensanz Center and released a recording and video for the World Premiere of Daniel E. Gawthrop’s When the Night Is Gone.

Additional performances include: the New York premiere of David Lang’s battle hymns performed on the Intrepid with Maestro James Bagwell conducting; Feuersnot by Richard Strauss at Carnegie Hall with the American Symphony Orchestra, Alfred Walker, Jacquelyn Wagner and Maestro Leon Botstein; Oceana by Osvaldo Golijov at Carnegie Hall with the American Symphony Orchestra, Biella Da Costa and Maestro James Bagwell; and Mefistofele by Arrigo Boito at Carnegie Hall with the American Symphony Orchestra, Eric Owens, The Collegiate Chorale and Maestro James Bagwell. Manhattan Girls Chorus was the sole performance group, globally live-streamed at the sixth annual Women in the World Summit at Lincoln Center. The Manhattan Girls Chorus recorded Even when He is silent by Kim André Arnesen and subsequently collaborated with celebrated artist Kevork Mourad in a moving and emotional video of the work, which was released in 2016.

Additionally, in support of our mission of empowering young women to find their voice, there have been numerous experiences designed to provide life skills and mentorship, including meetings with a variety of professional women. In keeping with the Chorus’ commitment to sharing our voice with the community, the Chorus has visited several sites where they sing and join in community with residents of extended care, hospice and senior living facilities in the New York City area.
